Grading option Definition
A-F only A-F grade basis only; course may not be audited or take pass/fail.
A-F or Aud A-F grade basis, or course may be audited for no grade.
S-N only S-N grade basis only (pass/fail), or course may be audited for no grade.
A-F only or S-N only The most common grading options. If no grading option is listed, the course may be taken using either option.
No Grade No grade will be give for the course; typically used for laboratory components of courses.
OPT No Aud Student selects the grading option; course may not be audited.
Stdnt Opt Student selects the grading option; course may be audited.

Course number range Definition
0000-0999 Does not carry credit.
1xxx-3xxx For undergraduates; may not be applied to graduate programs.
4xxx Primarily for undergraduate students in their fourth year of study. 4xxx courses can be counted for a Graduate School degree if the course is taught by a member of the graduate faculty or an individual appointed to Limited Teaching Status (LTS).
5xxx Primarily for graduate students; undergraduate students in their third of fourth year may enroll in such courses.
6xxx-7xxx For postbaccalaureate students in professional degree programs not offered throught the Graduate School.
Note: 4xxx, 6xxx, and 7xxx courses may be applied toward a graduate degree with approval by the student's major field and if the course is taught by a member of the graduate faculty or an individual authorized by the program to teach at the graduate level.
8xxx For graduate students only.

Abbreviation/Symbol Definition
H Honors. Courses with an H following the course number satisfy honors requirements (e.g., AGRI 5304H).
V Honors and Writing Intensive. Courses with a V following the course number satisfy both honors and liberal education writing intensive requirements (e.g., AGRI 5304V).
W Writing Intensive. Courses with a W following the course number satisfy the writing intensive requirement for liberal education (e.g., AGRI 5304W).
cr credit.
1-4 cr [max 6 cr] The course can be taken for 1 to 4 credits and may be repeated for up to 6 credits.
prereq course prerequisites.
prereq listed by number only A prerequisite course listed by number only (e.g., prereq 3105) is in the same discipline as the course being described.
div division.
DGS director of graduate studies.
DUS director of undergraduate studies.
equiv equivalent.
fr, soph, jr, sr freshman, sophomore, junior, senior.
, In prerequisite listings, a comma means "and".
= Credit will not be granted if credit has been received for the course(s) listed in brackets after this symnol.
& Concurrent registration is required (or allowed) in the course(s) listed after this symbol.
! Work for this course will extend past the end of the term. A grade of K will be assigned to indicate that the course is still in progress.
# Approval of the instructor is required for registration.
% Approval of the department offering the course is required for registration.
@ Approval of the college offering the course is required for registration.
fall, spring, every year Term(s) the course is typically offered.
Internet-delivered Course is taught electronically using Internet delivery mechanisms such as e-mail and Web sites.
Partially Internet-delivered Complete course is not delivered online but significant components are. For example, most of the course may be Internet-delivered, but could include some class meetings.
